Q) What is TunnelBear?

A) TunnelBear is the world’s easiest to use consumer VPN software that securely “tunnels” your internet connection to locations around the world. TunnelBear can be used to protect your privacy, to bypass internet censorship and to experience the internet as people in other countries experience it.

Q) How does TunnelBear work?

A) TunnelBear creates a secure, encrypted connection between your computer, tablet or smartphone and a server in the host country you want to connect to. If your communications are intercepted before they reach the TunnelBear servers, they’ll just look like unreadable jargon. To the internet it will look like your signal originated in the host server country.

Q) How can I pay for a Giant TunnelBear?

A) TunnelBear accepts payment from Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and occasional jars of honey. If you don’t see the PayPal option, ensure you’re on a recent version of TunnelBear.

Q) How do I downgrade my Giant TunnelBear account on PC/Mac?

A) Not that you would ever want to do this, but you can downgrade from Giant TunnelBear (paid) to Little TunnelBear (free) absolutely anytime by opening the application, logging in and clicking on the gear icon (account settings).

Q) What if I don’t get the email confirmation?

A) Confirmation emails generally arrive instantaneously. If the confirmation email doesn’t arrive within 30 minutes, check your junk-mail and then email support@tunnelbear.com. Support Bear will get you fixed up.

Q) I didn’t enter my twitter id during PC/Mac installation, but now I want to do that totally amazing TunnelBear 1GB free data promo.

A) Just click on the Twitter icon from within the application. The application will guide you through the process of re-entering your twitter id. You can visit the promo page for more info.

Q) Does TunnelBear work on my smartphone/tablet?

A) TunnelBear has both an Android app and an iOS app. If you have a Giant or Grizzly TunnelBear purchased from the PC or Mac application, you will also receive unlimited data for 2 mobile devices.

Q) What level of encryption does TunnelBear provide?

A) TunnelBear provides a minimum of AES 128-bit encryption.

Q) Where are your servers located?

A) We currently have servers in the US and UK. If you think we need servers in other places, we would love to hear from you. Italy? Australia? Canada? Germany? Let us know!

Q) Does TunnelBear also tunnel application traffic such as Skype, ICQ, and other applications?

A) Yup, once you turn on TunnelBear, all programs on your computer using the internet will transmit through the encrypted tunnel.

Q) Can I use TunnelBear from country ______?

A) Yup, you can use TunnelBear from anywhere in the world. Except China, as it turns out Panda Bears are not-so-friendly to TunnelBears.

Q) How does TunnelBear make me more secure? Does it help with privacy?

A) TunnelBear is one of many things you can use online if you are concerned about online-privacy and security. For example, if you are on an unsecured public Wi-Fi network, you should turn on TunnelBear to reduce the chance that others can snoop on your communications. TunnelBear encrypts the data on your computer before it sends it out over Wi-Fi. If your data is intercepted between your computer and it’s destination, the data will just look like unreadable jargon.

Q) Does TunnelBear data mine or share any of my personal information?

A) No. Nor will we ever.

Q) Does TunnelBear keep logs of my website activity?

A) TunnelBear stores the absolute minimum amount of information required to operate our service. This information includes your email, first name, last name, # of times you’ve logged on and the overall amount of data you transfered for the month. We do NOT log any information as to the websites you visit, nor do we store your IP address after you disconnect.

Q) Does TunnelBear have any malware, 3rd party apps, or annoying advertising?

A) Not at all. We created TunnelBear because we had poor experiences with other VPN software being riddled with malware and annoying advertising. TunnelBear is 100% completely malware and advertising free.

Q) Can I use the TunnelBear VPN service without the TunnelBear client?

A) We built TunnelBear to make VPN really, really easy. TunnelBear currently only supports access to our VPN network through our PC, Mac, iOS and Android apps.
