How are you reading this post currently?

Probably scrolling on your phone while commuting to the nearest fish market. Or perhaps sneakily killing time at the office while your cubicle mate Brett is busy with a meeting (we know it was you that snitched on us to Janet, Brett). Or maybe just sitting listless in front of the computer back at your cave, trying to figure out where all the years have gone.

We're not projecting. We promise.

That said, it's not where you are reading from, but what you are reading it in. Odds are... you're reading this in your browser - and what's more important than protecting the fact that you are reading such wonderful and well-written articles directly in your browser?

Probably a lot of things, but that's besides the point.

Our team is incredibly excited to share that it's now much easier to protect whatever you may be doing in your browser with our brand new and fully redesigned TunnelBear browser extension.

What's new in TunnelBear v4?

Rebuilt from the ground up, the new TunnelBear browser extension (v4) brings a massively improved experience and performance directly to your browser.

Not only did the TunnelBear extension get a fresh coat of paint (is it legal to paint a Bear?) and a lot of the bugs brushed out of its fur, but we've also made sure to pack it with a ton of new features that were previously limited to only the TunnelBear applications.

This means that if you prefer to use TunnelBear only in your browser, or if you use a platform that we don't support with an official application, you no longer have to miss out on some of the latest and greatest TunnelBear features.

  • Revamped and redesigned! Taking the best of the old, TunnelBear has a shiny new look and feel.
  • Cybearnetic enhancements have resulted in a stronger, more durable Bear. App code has been completely refactored.
  • Two Bears are better than one! New architectural advancements allow your Bear to tunnel websites outside of your VPN connection with SplitBear.
  • VigilantBear now available! Your Bear will now block all traffic during those brief moments when you switch networks or your connection drops.
  • TunnelBear will now obfuscate your connection on censored networks when using GhostBear. So spooky!
  • Bear ready for North American road trip. City server selection now available.

A more secure Bear for your browser

You can grab the latest version of the TunnelBear browser extension from our website, or download it directly from the Chrome and Edge extension stores. Firefox coming soon.

While rebuilding the TunnelBear browser extension was no small task, we're not quite ready to start hibernating just yet. We have a ton more improvements planned (we're eyeing you, Windows), and will be working on ways to make the experience across all the TunnelBear applications more cohesive for users with multiple devices.

2026 is the year of experience, and that's exactly what we're focused on - ways to continue making TunnelBear a remarkable and memorable experience for all our users. More to come.

Commence tunneling,

the TunnelBear Team
